Paintings of the “Brücke“
17 March – 21 October 2012

In spring and summer 2012 the Brücke-Museum Berlin presents numerous paintings made by the members of the artist group “Brücke”. Works by the cofounders Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff and Erich Heckel are shown, but also works created by the other “Brücke”-members Max Pechstein, Emil Nolde and Otto Mueller are on display. These colourful and often very expressive paintings show in an imposing way their favoured motives: landscapes, nudes, portraits or still-lives.

Woodblocks by Karl Schmidt-Rottluff
3 December 2011 to 22 April 2012

In winter 2011 the Brücke-Museum presents in a special exhibition woodblocks by Karl Schmidt-Rottluff. Yet in early years the artist developed an affinity to the usage of the raw material wood. A woodblock is the printing plate from which the woodcuts on paper get detached. So these plates made of wood display - more than the prints - a creative genesis and document the artist’s examination of the substance wood. The exhibition juxtaposes different woodblocks with the equivalent prints on paper.
